New Petersburg City Manager

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Stuart Turille Jr., who is less than one month into his new job as Petersburg's city manager, said he has a vision for the historic Virginia city.

"Look at these beautiful homes right here," Turille pointed on a recent drive with WTVR CBS 6 Senior Reporter Wayne Covil. "I see the future. I see the vision for this place."

Born in Englewood, New Jersey, Turille's family moved to Virginia when he was five years old.

Friday for the Arts!

Petersburg's Friday for the Arts! for October 8 Features Grammy-Award-Winning Saxophonist, Ghost Tour, Crafts, and Hispanic Art

Petersburg's Friday for the Arts! for the evening of October 8 will bring us refreshing weather, a fine jazz band featuring a Grammy-award-winning sax player, a ghost tour, crafts at three locations, Hispanic art in honor of Hispanic Month, a fashion show, and a popular Sinatra-style crooner.

Visual Arts: Crafts will be featured at three locations: The 7 Moons Artisan Market in Old Market Square, Old Towne's Studio 7, and the Art League. The latter will feature three exhibits in the Main Gallery: contemporary art by Melissa Mojica; traditional Aztec popotillo art by Cesar Carbahal and Martin Gonzales; and a loan exhibition from Mayti Parham of quilts and other piece goods made by the Kona Indians of Panama, and other Panamanian crafts.

Special Events: Petersburg Haunts will present a Ghost Tour of High Street, led by lantern-carrying guides in period costume, beginning on the steps of the Exchange at seven, and lasting about 90 minutes. $15. The tour will be repeated every Friday and Saturday evening through October 30, and then again on the 31st, when a second tour at nine will lead through Downtown Petersburg. Beginning at four, on Friday evening, Cesar Carbahal will be demonstrating the traditional art of popotillo in the Main Gallery at PAAL. From 6:30 to 9:30, Jazze' Entertainment of Petersburg will present a fashion show upstairs in the Members Gallery at PAAL. Beginning at six, Old Towne Studio 6 will present a Family Fun Night.

Music: Beginning at six at the 7 Moons Artisan Market in the Old Market Square, Tim Turner and the very fine jazz band, Tips Turnup (Petersburger Tim Turner) & the C.U.T., featuring Grammy-award-winning sax player Jason Arce, will be playing its own fusion of jazz and groove. Beginning at 6:30, the popular Sinatra-style crooner Joe LaLuna will be performing at Maria's.
